Japanese Food Wabi Horsham

Japanese cuisine is popular all over the World, and is characterised by its use of particularly high quality ingredients, the freshness and seasonality of the food and its presentation, which is taken very seriously.

Rice is an extremely important crop in Japan, and has subsequently become a staple in traditional Japanese foods. The Japanese generally eat short grain rice, which is white and becomes extremely sticky when cooked.

As with most Asian cuisines, noodles are also a staple of Japanese recipes and often replace rice in Japanese meals.

Traditionally, a Japanese meal will contain one of the above staples, with a soup and another main ingredient, which will be fish, meat or vegetable based. Being an island, Japanese cuisine has a large emphasis on seafood, with shellfish, crab, roe, tuna, salmon, squid, octopus, eels and seaweed all proving popular ingredients.

Sushi is often considered the most famous Japanese dish, although most people think of sliced raw fish when they hear the word (actually called sashami). Sushi generally consists of a bowl of cooked rice, topped with numerous other ingredients (usually fish).

Other typical Japanese ingredients include beans, eggs, flour, fruits, mushrooms and a wide range of soy based products.
